Welcome Package

Dear Guests-

Welcome to our vacation home!  We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
To help facilitate a wonderful vacation, I have couple of notes that may be useful:

Check in is at 3pm or anytime thereafter at your convenience.
Check out is at 11am or anytime prior.

Technology:

  1. We provide high speed internet that is wireless or can be wired with the cable provided. To get up and running just set your laptop network settings (TCP/IP and DNS) to “auto.”  The network is unsecured, however, so surf accordingly!
  2. All calls in the US and Canada are free as part of our telephone service, so please enjoy this feature, and an answering machine is provided for your convenience.
  3. Cable television is provided in each bedroom, and a big screen television is housed in the den with a DVD player, so if you or your family has favorites, bring them along to enjoy during your stay.
  4. CD stereo is provided in the master bedroom and living room for your enjoyment.
  5. All rooms are equipped with very quiet fans (few beach houses have air conditioning other than the cool bay/ocean breezes), we only ask you turn them off when not in use or you leave the house.
  6. The water heater is tankless, so there will never be a hot water shortage or problems with multiple showers at once.

Linens:

  1. Bath and hand towels are provided
  2. Beach towels are provided, however they are smaller and less fluffy than your own may be, as we need to be able to wash and dry a large amount of laundry in the four hours between guests.
  3. All beds have full linens, however, if you have a favorite pillow or special needs (allergic to down or other) bring whatever makes you comfortable.

Other amenities/notes:

  1. We have a propane grill for you to enjoy, we only ask you use the grill brush provided after each use
  2. The driveway will hold two cars and an additional car may be parked across the driveway, even though it is marked red.  They do not ticket or tow unless you call- this is good and bad, good as it can be used for additional parking, and bad because, on rare occasion and usually during peak times, other people could potentially park there.  There are orange cones on the side of the house you can place there if you wish, or you can call the Newport Beach Police Department and they will try to locate the owner or ask if you want them towed.  This has not been a problem for a guest yet, so most likely won’t affect you.
  3. Also, there are posted street sweeping signs and you want to pull in or park on the other side during those hours on those days (they do ticket thoroughly for these).
  4. The gardener comes every-other Thursday (FYI) and is generally there for less than 45 minutes.
  5. Trash pick-up is on Wednesday morning and the cans are in the alley off of the laundry. You need not do anything. Also, the City of Newport Beach does the recycling for you (hauling all trash to a recycling center for them to separate) – there is a brochure in the notebook at the home if you are interested- so no need to separate recyclables from trash.

Shopping list:

  1. We supply “starter” paper products (toilette paper, trash bags, etc.) but as different guests have different needs, you may want to purchase or pack additional items as you see fit.
  2. We also supply hand soap, dish soap, dish washer detergent, and some laundry detergent.  If you have sizable laundry needs,  you may need more laundry detergent (we supply detergent so that each guest can throw in a load of laundry before they leave to facilitate the turn-over process).  Fabric softener is not provided as some guests are allergic to its scents.  Also, bath soaps and other toiletries such as shampoo are not provided.
  3. Some kitchen items, such as salt/pepper/coffee filters are provided.  We also have basic tea and other basic spices, but not a full array.
  4. We have filtered water through a carbon filter at the kitchen sink and an ice maker, so buying water is not necessary.

Sample shopping list: Toilette paper, Kleenex, Ground coffee, all food including cooking sprays or oils or butters if necessary for preparation, drinks, some laundry detergent and dryer sheets (if you like them), paper towels.

The closest major grocery store is Pavilion’s and is just over the bridge (5 to 10 minute walk, 2 minute drive).  Other grocery stores (e.g. Ralphs, Alberson’s, Gelson’s ,Bristol Farms), as well as Costco, Trader Joe’s and Sam’s Club are within a few miles and can be found online or in the phonebooks provided.
Pavilion’s also has a delivery program (I believe the delivery fee is waived with minimum purchase).  You can call them or if you have brought your computer, log on to: http://shop.safeway.com/superstore/corporate.asp?brand=vons and enter the zip code of 92662 after you log onto shop online.

Check Out:

  1. Please have at least one load of linens or towels in the washer and one load in the dryer prior to leaving.
  2. Please strip all beds and put in linens in the laundry room.
  3. Please sign our guestbook
  4. If you have noticed any maintenance issues, please leave me a separate note so I will know to address those issues (e.g. faucet dripping, etc.)
  5. At 11am (or earlier) simply put your keys on the dining room table and pull the locked door closed as you leave.

Thank You!
